My Review of Evolution Bycycle #IndoorCycling Studio

icon_logoI was recently invited by Evolution Bycycle’s co-owner Rich Davila to visit and attend a class. Rich and Allison who co-own the studio, launched it in December 2013 and then relocated it in September 2015. The studio is now inside The Fields Sports Complex, located at 8 Cornwall Court, East Brunswick, NJ 08816. Ample and free parking is available (I visited on a 12308453_1188317354529782_4793296140238201135_nThursday evening and there were plenty of available parking spaces). Once you enter the club, make a right and walk past the open court (where fencing classes often take place) to the back corner of the building. Evolution Bycycle is tucked in the corner and accessible through two flights of stairs (second floor). On December 6, Evolution Bycycle celebrated its second birthday!

Indoor Cycling

Rich and Allison spent sometime with me to discuss their vision and what inspired them to open Evolution Bycycle. Rich and Allison launched Evolution Bycycle since there were no nearby independent indoor cycling studios. Rich and Alison have a passion for their business and focus on winebuilding a sense of community by engaging their members, offering traditional indoor cycling classes, fund-raising/charitable rides, a variety of class themes, as well as a unique “Spin for Wine Thursday – S4WT” class which is the first of its kind that I have seen. According to Rich, S4WT, is “perfect for your mind, body and spirit, riders of all levels are welcome and are instructed to modify the workout to your ability…. We will work hard and as a reward for that hard work, we get to enjoy a healthy snack and heart healthy glass of wine!”. My visit was on a Thursday and the class was sold out!!

AC_Perf_Plus_11Evolution Bycycle focuses exclusively on indoor cycling, with several classes offered per week. Regular class durations vary from 45 minutes to 55 minutes. There are 25 Schwinn AT Performance Plus bikes with the traditional cages, are SPD compatible and offer a very quiet ride (bring your own cycling shoes as renting shoes in not currently offered). Reservations can be directly made using the studio’s website (http://www.evolutionbycycle.com/pages/buy-rides). Evolution Bycycle uses PIQ metrics to display each rider’s cadence, power, interval duration, heart rate and other parameters on two large screen TVs situated above the instructor’s bike. Riders can opt out of participating in PIQ. Per class prices start at a very affordable $16 per ride and you can choose from a variety of packages such as 10 rides for $145, 20 rides for $275 or 30 rides for $390. Additional packages are also available for students at a discount. Rich and Allison value feedback from their members and often offer special packages and fundraiser rides for local & community charities.

Towels are provided and an open storage unit is available inside the studio. The studio is spacious, well ventilated and is meticulously clean. Signature orange towels are placed on each bike and free bottled water is available.

 Quick Summary

Final Thoughts

Rich and Allison are passionate about indoor cycling and about their studio. Their mission of having a community-driven indoor cycling program have created a loyal following. This was evident during my visit: a loyal rider made it to class and rode for the full duration even though she was still recovering from foot surgery (she was wearing a “boot”). Now this is what I call dedication, and it is in no small part due the spirit of support and community you will find at Evolution Bycycle.

I wish Rich and Allison continued success in their journey as they celebrate their second year of business. Thank  you for the opportunity to visit and review your studio.
